Sometimes I have to wonder
Why I ever try romance
By the time that it’s over
I wish I never took the chance

And I try to remember
All the good things I was thinkin’
Then I get the blues and hit the booze
And dull the pain with drinkin’

And somewhere in the smokey bars
The whiskey and the steel guitars
Shine through, and get me feeling better

If there’s a god in the night
He helps me see the light
And realize I’m happy that I met her
